how's that so great?
All that says is that they will be sure to let you know that it doesn't work, nothing about not doing it anymore.
If you follow the link in drakino (sp?) sig line you'll see that they've already been doing that on at least some copy-protected cds

No this is great! It will lower sales and then they will stop! That woman has some serious guts to take them to court! I have thought about do it, but it seems like a pipe dream.

I can't wait till Phillips wins and these companies will no longer be able to call them CD's.

A link to info on Philips' quest perhaps? I have not heard they had a beef.

Philips is the company that owns the patent for the CD-audio format, as well as the trademark of the "Compact Disc Digital Audio" logo. As I understand it, they allege that the copy protected discs do not conform to the CD-audio standard and therefore are not allowed to use the logo or to pass off the discs as being "compatible" since they do not conform.

Nor sell them in the same area as normal CDs. Just like how tapes and CDs are normally seperated now. Thats the big thing that would kill copy protection.

I wonder if Phillips could then sue these companies not only for using the CD badge, but also for borrowing so much technology that IS owned by Phillips. Kinda like "it is not close enough to a CD to call it a CD and it is TOO much like a CD to call it your own."

Phillips is smart in doing this because without this quality control, I'd never trust anything that says CD again.
