Hijack v227 is now released. The changes include:
  • The buttonhack_enabled=1 option no longer exists. If you were using it in config.ini, you'll get an error now.
  • Mk2(a) units now have a menu item for Button Illumination Level. A single combined setting is saved in flash for car/home operation.
  • By default, if the Button Illumination has been turned on in the menu, the buttons will remain illuminated at the lowest level when the unit is in standby. There is no menu item to adjust this level, but you can set it in config.ini using buttonled_off=n, where n is an integer from 0 to 7.
The jiffies lockup problem seems to have been cured (in v224). I hearby declare this issue dead, although the debug code is still present in v227 (to be removed Real Soon Now).

But some people are suffering from an HTTP-related lockup, which seems to only happen when there's ethernet traffic to the khttpd_port on the player. Not sure what's going on there yet, since it never locks up for me.

    Cheers

I thought the ethernet lockup was only from people with Nimda hammering their internal networks?

Oh, and thanks a million for the button dimmer! /me scrambles to install and play with it.

In most cases (three so far), yes. But even that shouldn't crash the player. And another case does NOT involve Nimda, just normal http to the player. Mmm.. something not right there.

And before anyone asks about the flicker while adjusting the button dimmer: it's unavoidable due to the design of the player.

    Cheers

    Yahoo!

The Http lockups should now be fixed in v228.

Hijack had a bug (recently introduced) whereby the '%xx' escapes in URLs were not always being decoded properly, sending it into an infinite loop whenever clicking on a track with a '%' in the title, or when being pounded on by the Nimda worm.

Thanks to everyone for helping track this down.

    Any more lockups, anyone?

Saweeeeet! Thanks Mark. Glad i could help track it down... what a fluke that my friend decided to download the one track with a % sign. No more lockups! yayaya.

EDIT: Installed v228, and it no longer locks up when escape characters are present. Nice.

Good. I think that the empeg button lockups are now history, with the two jiffies bugs fixed, and the http issue also now resolved (thanks again!).

So, I really want to know if anyone ever sees another lockup with v2beta11 + Hijack v228+ installed. Give it a good workout, folks!

    Thanks

Im beating on it now. FWIW my lockups had nothing to do with the filename thing. Im not accessing files through http.

    Mark;

Thank you very much for fixing the http lockups. I absolutely love the HTTP interface. That was the only problem I was having with it. I know my lockups where happening because they are still having trouble with Nimda on the network I'm using. Hopefully now all will be well.

Thanks again for the awesome work!

5+ hours with no lockup.. I'm going to call this one fixed. Nice work, Mark.

I still don't understand how the bug was affecting me. I have port 80 closed and am virus free and don't even have any of the XML stuff installed on my empeg anymore but I was getting lockups like crazy.

    Oh well, it's fixed now.

The bug was Hijack's mishandling of '%' (percent) characters in URLs. If your albums or track titles have any, then Hijack would lock up when they were accessed via the HTTP interface.

Otherwise, one of your machines probably has nimda on it.. have you tried connecting to port 80 on your other machines, just to see what's there?

    Hijack v229 is now out.
  • removed "stuck jiffies" debug logic
  • fixed crash-on-reboot (maybe)
  • nothing really exciting, just trying to stabilize it
    Cheers
