I have heard of some encoders (don't remember which one's they were) that could encode a levels above 320. Does anyone know of which encoders do this and, can the empeg player, playback mp3's recorded above 320???

Thanks in Advance...

- Frank

Im fairly sure that 320 is the upper limit for the mp3 format itself.

MPEG layers 1 and 2 can support higher bitrates (448 and 384, respectively), but 320 is the highest for mp3. Does the player support mp2?

I think it does support mp2 but maybe Tony can shed some more info on this as well. I not sure if the player can playback mp2's or mp3's for that matter, encoded higher than 320.

Mp2 is on the list of supported files according to the FAQ.

Please notify me if the FAQ is in error.

To reiterate (and be clearer), there's no such thing as an mp3 with a bitrate higher than 320kbps. Just for future reference, there's nothing in the mp3 frames that says ``320kbps'' or ``128kbps'' or whatever bitrate it happens to be. There's a set of four bits that is an offset to a table that's different for each layer's specification. So there's no way to specify anything higher than 320kbps because there's not any entry in that table that is higher than 320kbps.

Tony,
Can the player playback audio files encoded higher than 320???
Mp2's can be encoded at higher bitrates.(See above post reply)

Bitt,

I could not remember if it was the mp3's or the mp2's that could be encoded above 320. I now know it was the mp2's..

Thanks

Can the player playback audio files encoded higher than 320?

I would assume that if the player supports MP2, then it would play back any file that properly conforms to the MP2 spec.

If it is otherwise, someone please let me know.

Did you want to encode higher than 320 MP3s just so they could be used on the empeg? I'm just asking, because there's a new format in town that I haven't seen mentioned on the board here. Check out my new thread in a few minutes.
