I am usually the last one to recommend music to anyone. BEcause i have strange taste i guess. For those of you that want to check out something new.. sorta of industrial sounding, mixed with old brit rock, made chaotic.. i really wish i could describe it better. The new Prick CD is perhaps teh best cd i have bought in 5 years. anyway, give it a shot. There is no way you will find it for download, even at low bitrates to sample. You will have to make do from the site samples. They don't do it justice.

ANyway, if you are open to something new, give it a shot. his first album in 8 years, and it RULES.

didn't know where to post this.

The proper location for "I don't know where to post this" posts is the forum called "Off Topic".

I can't believe I missed the launch of this album. I have been waiting for new Prick material to come out for years. I saw them open for NIN on the David Bowie tour. To tell you the truth, I went to the show mainly to see Prick.

Thanks for the heads up. This is an incredible band.

heh yah. kevin signed the first 100 envelops

it is DRASTICALLY different then the first album.

grab it though and give it a few listens to, it is awesome.

a good site to keep up on prick info is (obviously aside from prickmusic.com) digitalnoise.org

FWIW he has broken away from nothing, and formed his own label www.luckypierre.com and there is a lucky pierre album coming out later this year. One mp3 was released to digitalnoise.org for it, send me a mail @ [email protected] and i will get it to you, since i don't think it is available for download anymore (site lost the file server i think due to cost.

There is no problem with the download, Kevin himself released it.

most of the OT stuff has nothing to do with music or mp3's or empeg as i can see. I didn't see any posts about music in there. Hence the confusion.. anyway....

Off Topic would be the best place to post this (or reviews).

BUUUUUUUT This is awesome news! I remember one of my first internet experiences, back in 1996, I was in the school library at WMU getting my first exposures to Netscape. Using this thing called a "search engine" I typed in Prick (what else is a college student supposed to lookup besides band news?!) To my horror - about a million porn sites popped up! And nothingrecords.com was years away. So there was no way of finding info. That is sad that he left nothing records, but I guess he was over shadowed by Manson and NIN anyway. That first album is SO under rated (Tony, I always described it as a cross between NIN and Rush?!!?) I can't wait to pick this one up!

Another bit of info: KMFDM is back together! (They switched to MDFMK after the Colombine shootings (the a-holes quoted KMFDM lyrics) and upon leaving WaxTrax Records). They released a single covering "These Books are made for Walking" and have a track called "Back in the USSA". I am getting it tonight. I heard it is good.

Thanks for the post!

you might want to check out the first album before trying the second. I am a huge NIN and early manson fan, the first prick album has outlasted both of those. www.nothingrecords.com has info on the first album still listed i believe.. since it is NEVER updated. They have clips here of that one. The second one is probably better left to those who loved the first album and want to hear the new stuff. It isn't really the same, but it is still definately prick.

Based mainly on the singer's voice and the high production values... I always thought that the first album reminded me of Rush. Trent Reznor produced part of it, and it is on his record label, so it certainly has that NIN feel to it.

The only Manson stuff for me that lasted was the Portait album. You know... the stuff I heard before I found out what an a-hole the guy is.

Ok two keywords: NIN and Rush, got my attention. This warrants a look-see. Doesn't seem like the two would mix though. Could you imagine: Jacob's Ladder (NIN remix).mp3

I saw Prick at a NIN concert in 95 and its so long ago I don't remember (wish I did, that was an awesome concert).

It is a remix of Stone Cold Crazy... lemme try to find out more for you.

Reznor has always been a fan of Queen and Floyd... One of NIN's first hits was a cover of "Get Down Make Love"

Good cover
have you heard the "original" lyrics to 'Ringfinger' - I believe then it was called "twist" or something. Unfortunately some of this pre-Halo1-2 stuff is hard to come by.

I've got the entire demo for Pretty Hate Machine called "Purest Feeling". It should be easy to find on bootleg and it has "Twist". It is weird... you start singing and suddenly about 30 seconds into the song, the words change!

Any insight as to where these albums can be purchased?
I've checked most of the cd shops on the internet and there is nothing to be found. The link from nothing sends you to cdnow to purchase but it isn't available there.
Thanks

www.prickmusic.com is the only place to buy the new album. For the old album, you will probably have to get it from eBay or Half.com.

On my lunch break I went out to my local music store looking for it and they didn't have it - only the old one which was out of print. Just got back 2 min ago to see your post, thanks for the info!

To my horror - about a million porn sites popped up!

In the UK the word prick is (one of many) slang terms for penis, I never realised it wasn't used in the US.

This sortof explains my lack of interest in this thread until now, the topic "New Penis CD" just didn't appeal! Reminds me of the Ford Probe, apparently in the US the term probe was meant to relate to cool things like space probes, over here in the UK the word probe is perhaps more readily related to activities such as: Probe into something, to probe for something, last but by no means least is the recognised penile affiliatiation with the verb

Now, on a more serious note: Tony, I always described it as a cross between NIN and Rush?!!? ....

That is what got me interested in this thread, what Rush era are you likening Prick to here, my enthusiasm faded on their later albums but if Prick liken to earlier or mid-term Rush then I really should check them out myself? Can you relate Prick to a particular Rush album?

``Prick'' is used as slang for the penis in the US, as well. Reminds me of a bad joke:

Little girl goes up to her mom and says ``Mom! I've got a splinter in my finger! Get some apple juice!'' To which her mother replies ``Apple juice?''. And the little girl says ``Yeah -- big sister says whenever she gets a prick in her hand, she puts it in cider.''

Hah! Get it?

Oh, it's used that way in the US, too. It's in common enough usage here in that form so that the double meaning isn't lost on us.

Tony,

No flaming here, no need for the flack jacket on my part!

I was always ecstatic when a new Rush album hit the shelves and I don't have one favourite above all others. For me, they never lost their technical or lyrical prowess, ever. IMHO they did lose the harder rock feel (that I enjoyed playing air guitar to at times) later on - I miss this and that's what I'm hoping to find in Prick.

Oh boy, another "they peaked at 2112" fan...
Lol, as it happens I was introduced to Rush at the time 2112 was current (are you psychic?) but you ain't gonna tar me with that old brush! I can't single out a single favourite album but I could name a top 5 if my life depended on it and I'm not talking about them being (in this order) "Rush, Caress Of Steel, Fly By night, 2112, A Farewell To Kings"

... perhaps it's me that's gonna get flamed here

Incidentally, why is this place (apparently) populated by so many Rush groupies?!

Just for fun (and this is now way OT I admit) ......

Do you like the Canadian rock group Rush?

Hypothesis: There's a nearly 1:1 correlation between gadget freaks and Rush fans. Discuss.

Well, in reality, there's a big gap between ``fan'' and ``like''. I own a couple of Rush albums, and I like listening to them on occasion, but it's hardly like I'm going to rush out (NPI) and buy the newest one when it's released.

In other words, if it was on the radio, I wouldn't change the station, like I would with most songs that are on the radio these days. (Unless it was something off of Presto or later. Uggh!)

Yeah, I knew the double meaning of Prick (was a big surprised when I was really young and my mom got mad at me for using the word! It doesn't have much punch here in the US - in contrast to the work "cock" - yet not as silly as "wanker"). My surprise was the extent to which the web was populated by porn. I really had no idea there would be THAT much porn and that I could access it from a school library! (on my first day on campus nonetheless!)

For the record, I'm not a Rush fan (I should have setup a new user ID to post this huh? Suddenly it will take weeks before anyone will reply to "that jack ass, Rush knockin' SE Sport Driver!") So I can't really tell you what Rush era it reminds me of. I'll have to ask my wife, she's a big fan. But this Prick stuff leans much more on the NIN aspect of it. Think of it as a NIN type album (has some substance like NIN - NOT like all the NIN wannabe bands) with a touch of Rush. It is hard edged at times, but something about his vocal style.... I recommend downloading samples first otherwise you'll hate me!

Bitt: Good joke!

So you other Rush fans may not believe this, but my favorite era is the new stuff. My all time favorite album is "Roll The Bones" and my second favorite Rush album is "Hold Your Fire" followed by (of course) "Moving Pictures" and "2112". I love everything I have ever gotten by them (unfortunatly I still lack a couple albums); every song on every CD.

I keep hearing people dog the new stuff and I really just don't get it. As a musician I can say this is one band who just loves making music and it comes through on every project, even the "new" stuff - I'm just sort of wondering if I'm the only one who likes it.

Does this "Prick" really sound like Rush? I have never found anything else that even comes close (though many have tried to sell me on various bands) and I would love to find music similar to Rush.
