It's not on a schedule - it's something that we have researched so we know we can do it, but have no firm plans at the moment. We'll have to consider the demand once we've shipped some Mark 2's, bearing in mind that this is only going to be of interest to European clients at the moment.

US DAB is different (much lower spec in fact) and doesn't get full approval for another year, let alone widespread uptake by radio stations.

Also, DAB is going to be expensive - the chipsets don't come cheap!

Cool - so basically, a no :-( Can understand that though. DAB is not growing that much, and I just wonder if it's ever gonna make it into the market for real.

But that just brings up another question, the interface between the MK2 base unit and the tuner, is that something you will make the specs available to the public ? Just wonder if someone wants to use that interface for getting their own gear attached. MAybe stupid but I guess not impossible.

Thanks, J.

according to this question I'd like to know if the tuner will be available at the same time as the Mk 2 and where the tuner is connected to. (Have seen the back-sight from the Mk 2. There is no special connector for the tuner. So I guess that it's connected with this docking-connector for the slide-bay, right?)

For us technical and non geek types, what exactly is a dab tuner.

It's definitely not a "no" - but it's probably a "no time soon".

I don't see a problem with publishing the specs on the tuner interface, but to do anything different to a regular FM tuner (or something that emulates one) you would need the player source code, which isn't going to happen.

Here are two sides of the DAB story. First the hype:

Now the not so good news:

The tuner module is a little delayed and will not ship with initial Mark 2 orders, but it won't be far behind. If you order one with your player, and the module is not available at the time, we won't charge the shipping for sending it on afterwards.

It connects into a plug on the car dock - the photos you saw were of an undocked player.

The sad thing is there'd be no way to listen to the radio at work...

Thats cool, thanks a lot. No biggie. I guess if DAB *will* hit the mass market (yet to happen, probably for a while if ever) then chipset prices will come down. It was more out of curiousity. Thanks! J.
