Would be nice if harddrives kept spinning in certain situations...(say, on PARTYS or so...). Otherwise they have to spin-up before the just-selected song starts.
This would be an helpful option during emplode-sessions... but it could also be implemented as a Setting in the Advanced Player Configuration...
...or is this possible already ??

Yep.

[options]
spindown=0

Ought to do the trick. I think it made it out into beta11.

Using Hijack, you could prefix this with ;@AC so that you don't have the drives spun up in the car...

It would be nice to have some UI to set spindown=0 for the current session (i.e. lost when the power is removed), and this should be doable in Hijack. This would be useful for occasional parties for those of us who wouldn't want it on all the time.

But would It be a Bad idea to have this turned on in the car ? Would a really bad bump cause damage to the harddrive ? It would solve the buffer problem with it sometimes taking a few seconds to go to the next track , correct ?

It would. Many reasons for this.

Would a really bad bump cause damage to the harddrive ?

Yep, that's one of the reasons. One other reason is that a spun-up harddisc certainly consumes more power than a spun-down disc (but there is certainly a trade-off, because a disc spinning up uses even more power than an already sun-up one).

It would solve the buffer problem with it sometimes taking a few seconds to go to the next track , correct ?

It would certainly reduce the latency between selecting a new song and the start of the song playing. But it would certainly not eliminate it completely.
