A female American Foxhound.... yesterday, she crapped in the floor while we were gone, then tracked it all over the house.... successfully ruining our living room carpet.... then ripped down a set of curtains and shredded them along with a pillow.... Other than that she's a really sweet dog and great with kids...

Just one big old black cat (he's 12 or 13 now) called Braveheart. When we got him from the Cat Protection League he was called Suki, so that had to change.
Briefly had a female ginger kitten called Torin - from about 5 weeks old to 8 months, then my neighbour reversed his truck over her. So instead of getting another, we started on children at that point.
Producing, not running over, I hasten to add.

Well, when I first got him, I was gonna name him Elvis. After having him home for about 4 hours, I realized it didn't suit him. So he was nameless for about 3 weeks. When it got to the point where he started to think "hey hey you little bastard stop that" was his name (he scratched my eyeball one day, one of his nastier offenses, he was a very bad kitten), I had to start seriously looking for a name. I started looking for foreign language translations for little bastard, and stumbled onto that lovely cursing in swedish website. He got that name because they had audio clips so I could learn how to pronounce it.

It is. My sister's dog is half beagle, and she is the most pathetic dog I have ever seen in this respect (and we've had some really emotionally needy ones). To the point where I'd really like to kick her, even if she is really cute.

Well, seeing how you have 2 cats, you're probably well prepared for a ferret. I have two: a 2+ year old Hobbes (from Calvin and Hobbes, I'm Calvin), and a 1 year old named Y.T. (from the book Snowcrash - Y.T. is albino - whitey, get it?)
Anyhow, ferrets are like kittens in their stupidity and their playfulness, and they stay that way forever, at least until they are too old too move quickly anymore. Even then the spirit is there. They do have some oddities though. They are extremely obsessive / compulsive. Sometimes, such as stealing guest's shoes and hiding them under the dresser, it's really funny. Sometimes when they steal your stuff it's just plain annoying. And they never give up on something either. Once they realize something can be done, no matter what you do to prevent it, they will still try. This is why I have claw marks on my dresser drawers, because they really want to get in there again. Lastly, they really like to dig. Plants, carpeting, you name it. Quite destructive really. My carpet wasn't great to start with, but the next owner of this house will definitely be replacing it.
In spite of it all, I love them. If you like the rest of your pets, I'm sure you'll get along with a ferret just fine. I got two, a second one to keep each other company while I'm gone. You may be fine with one, it will spend most of it's day pestering the other animals.

Pixel managed to delay the development of the empeg by nearly a week, by stealing the only FM tuner module we had for the prototype of the MK1 and hiding it under the sofa in the living room. We couldn't find it anywhere, and had to get another sample.
It turned up a few months later, when I was cleaning.
The thing was wrapped in a protective foam sheet, and she had apparently hooked it out of the parts box on the floor, played with it for some time, and ended up chasing it downstairs (the foam was full of clawmarks). Obviously felt that she wasn't having enough attention paid to her
She also used to bring me a frog. The same one, four or five times a summer, for four years. Pood thing must have felt it was being picked on, and in the end didn't even bother to struggle. She just grabbed it out of the neighbours pond, carried it in by one foot, then dropped it in the middle of the room and watched it until I put it back.
It was definitely the same animal, with more and more scratches and scars every year.
Cats are weird.
Patrick

It's not a matter of being prepared. I've had pets my whole life. I actually got the first pet that was "mine" at age 4, who I was responsible for feeding and keeping after as much as a 4 year old could handle. I've had dogs, cats, hamsters, pigs, iguanas, fish, ducks, animal care is not an issue. It's just thanks to Rudy Guliani and his "I know what quality of life decisions should be made, begone the porno and "exotic pets", they're illegal to keep as pets in New York City. And I ain't moving to the suburbs for an animal.

I have 5 glass fish, a golden apple snail and 2 bala sharks. Unfortunately, one of the bala sharks came down sick this sunday. He's flapping on the bottom of the tank for days. He can't swim straight, he can't swim right side up, he keeps hitting everything an he's on the bottom wiggling his fins looking very distressed and pained. It hurts me to look. I've been medicating the tank with antibiotics and antiparasite pills but he's not getting any better. :-( I've tried dropping some peas in there to see if he'll take the bait but no go. Dunno what to do :-( The other bala shark is his best friend, and would probably be saddened if he doesn't pull through.

Sounds like it colud be an air bladder problem. Sometimes they heal themselves in time. Believe it or not there are vets that do work on fish.

It does sound like an air bladder problem. That's why I've been trying to feed him a pea. But he keeps flapping about an kicking the pea around like a football. I broke the pea open and the damn snail leaps onto it and eats it. The snail also likes to jump on top of the poor bala shark. :-(

You could try calling a Aquarium in the area to find out about any treatments. I once drove a 4 hour round trip to take a 10 year old goldfish for treatment for an air bladder problem. He was given a series of 3 injections and it was kind of gruesome to watch but it did help him.

I spent over $500 bucks on my chameleon because he ended needing surgery due to a prolapse(basically his wang wouldnt go back in after mating) It was a hard $500 to swallow but the vet worked out a nice payment plan and Im glad to say he is fine again and I have since quit breeding him. I might start back again because the money is extremely decent.
