Personally, I think he's displaying the good old-fashioned ingenuity Americans are so proud of in themselves. Hell, we need people like that dude. If space is an issue, kick out a bland white suburban bottom feeder -- no one will miss his/her featureless existence.

I watched a documentary about US 'illegal immigrants' a while back and that particular case was featured in a very negative light - depicting the lengths (the bad people) people will go to to get across the US/Mexico(?) border.
It's enlightening to see the humane, understanding and compassionate views taken by posters here (so far) in response to that situation.
I'm left with the feeling that that documentary was (potentially) mostly propaganda.

Yeah I showed the picture to my friend, and Ill admit here we have a huge illegal alien problem and tend to be pretty harsh towards them, mainly because they cant drive and dont pay taxes (but there are plenty of citizens that do the same things so its not a good excuse), anyway he and I were discussing how we need people like that guy here in the states Im sure he would do more work in one day than a whole family of lazy welfare leeches would do in a month, maybe a years time.

...they can't drive...
And when did not being able to drive become a criminal offense ?
...and don't pay taxes...
Well, if you're an illegal immigrant, it seems daft to attempt to pay taxes -- the goverment would suddenly notice the extra money and wonder where it's coming from...
On the other hand, if the goverment gave these people citizenship (or working visitor status), maybe they'd be grateful enough to pay their taxes.
Disclaimer: Note that I'm not having a dig at you, but at the people "who tend to be pretty harsh towards them".

Well, the "huge illegal alien problem" you refer to is not a one way street. Their hard work is a big reason that the cost of housing is so low here in dallas.

Yes and I can vouch for it being cheap here. My parents sold their house for $300,000 here. Do to a job transfer(my dad nows deals with the NSA and CIA) he was forced to move to the DC area. For $500,000 he got a smaller house a nonexistant yard and has to share a driveway. I have noticed that most of the workers are not immigrants like I am used to here.

I think what he meant was, they don't drive capably -- but that doesn't deter them from getting into a car and being a menace to other people on the road.

Ah. That makes sense. Maybe I'm just tetchy about the whole subject because I couldn't drive until recently.

I wouldn't necessarily compare the cost of living in DC to other places... It's insanely expensive... I work in Chantilly VA (used to be in DC) we moved outside of DC (15 miles or so) and got a really nice townhouse (brand new) for 140k in a good neighborhood.... inside the beltway is crazy expensive...

Oh my family is a good distance outside the beltway. They are even in Fairfax. They are out near Leesburg in Ashburn.

My family's inside the beltway. You're right, it's nuts! My parents bought the house we're in now in about 1984.
Recently, they started looking to move into someplace smaller, like a townhouse, but be in the same area. All the townhouses were more expensive than our freakin house! And that's for less floorspace and 1/5 the land! It's crazy, man. But I love the area.
ps-I know some folks in Ashburn, and my girlfriend lives in Sterling. I would barely call Ashburn the DC area to me, it's like the middle of nowhere (no offense)

Well its basically a huge planned out community in the middle of nowhere. My parents close on there new house the 13th of May and guess who is living next door? The new center for the Redskins. Oh I take no offense I dont have to live there I have an apartment in the city of Atlanta, barely in the city limit but none the less still within the limits.
