I put 36 up yesterday but forgot to change the version number in it to 35, so it would keep complaining that you need to update. I put a new one up this morning that just changes the version #, so the next time you update, it will be set correctly. Incidentally, the only thing I added in 36 was the support for the Play (replace), Play (append), Play (insert), and Pause buttons in the toolbar. I got an email that it didn't work for someone, so try it out and let me know ...

I notice that with 35 (getting 36 now) that the help file is not available. How can I learn more about the download feature. I want to start backing up my mp3s...

Mike: Play/Insert/Etc buttons now working for me. I thought you simply hadn't gotten around to implementing the feature yet, didn't realize enabling the buttons was a bug fix.
SE: Go into the options box in Jemplode and enter the following text into the Filename Format and Soup Filename Format boxes:
{artist} - {source} ({year}) - {pos:2} - {title}{ext}
Now right-click on any tree position or song and select "Download".
To fix up your tags after the files have been downloaded, run MP3 Tag Studio and have it do a filenames-to-tags scrub. You'll have to hand-fiddle with any unusual characters such as /\:*?"<>| since those aren't allowed in Windows file names.
Mike, any chance we can get the tag-writing-on-download to work for Jemplode? I thought that's what the checkbox meant in the options box but it doesn't seem to do that.

It's not turned on yet ... I need to try it out with Dan's new TFF libraries and see how it works. I think he fixed some bugs a couple versions ago that may make it work. Maybe it'll be in for 37.

Oh -- By the way, if you were referring to the "Repair Tags if Necessary" checkbox, that's used to turn on/off the feature where if you have tunes imported in 1.0 and you load them in 2.0, it has to add some new tags... However, occasionally, jEmplode would get confused and keep asking you to update your tags. In those cases, you could turn off that feature.

Ah. I thought by "tags" it was referring to the ID3 tags on files you download from the player.
I think it would be cool if Jemplode could optionally write synched V1 and V2 tags to the files as they are downloaded from the player. That way, if your emplode track information is more accurate than the tags of the files that were originally sent to the player, you could fix the tags as you grabbed them.
For me, this would skip the MP3 Tag Studio step when I <mumble mumble>...

Yummy! I can barely wait for the next rev. Jemplode is really shaping up now! V36 looks great! I'm starting to look forward to this like Hijack releases now...
Keep up the great work Mike, Daniel and crew!
Thanks for your efforts!

There would be absolutely no difficulty writing synched V1 and V2 tags (or just V1 tags, or just V2 tags, or removing existing V1 tags and outputting files with only V2 tags, or removing existing V2 tags and outputting files with only V1 tags, etc...) using the ID3 library. It would also be possible to merge the information from the player database with any tags that might already exist in the files (ie: change title/artist/etc, but preserve all other frames of a V2 tag, such as "encoded by", "comment", "encoder settings", etc.).
Which of these abilities will make it into JEmplode, I'm not sure, but I'd be very surprised if none of them did...

Does anyone have any idea why Jemplode will not connect to my player via Ethernet but emplode will? Network trouble shooting isn't helping much because it DOES work with emplode. I have tried both crossover connection and via a hub.. I've double checked the IP I was telling it to look at and restarted and program and rebooted. Any ideas?
On a side note: why does emplode as for subnet but jemplode doesn't?

where does Emplode ask for the subnet? jEmplode tries to send broadcasts out to a bunch of different variations to find the Empeg ...
Are you using a 2.0 kernel Empeg? jEmplode will only connect to that. If Emplode is finding it on the same machine, then networking is clearly working.... Hmm ... So you've turned off network broadcast and you're doing Unicast to a specific IP?

Yes, I'm running 2.00b11 and am only specifying an IP (emplode asks for a subnet in the player configuration - not in the connection dialoge - my bad ). I'm baffled too because I used to be able to connect with no problem... Now I'm running my empeg (my RioCar is on its way to the UK) but I reinstalled 2.00b11 on it..
Weird!

So you're saying after you reinstalled 2.0b11 again it stopped being found by jEmplode? Is it found, but you can't communicate, or is it not even found?

It was not being found at all via Ethernet. I had popped my RioCar drives into my empeg and reinstalled 2.00b11 and various versions of HiJack. It used to connect just fine with my RioCar. But get this, on a whim, I reinstalled my firewall and all is fine. The firewall was never an issue before. Who knows? I probably would have solved it earlier, but I've been having sync issues since moving back to the empeg (only with HiJack 263, 264 and 265) so that's been taking up most of my time (doing 60GB fsck's).
Thanks for helping me out. I love Jemplode! and I love the new splash screen.

It loads my database and then never displays the playlists, and everything but "open player database" and "exit" is greyed out. I backed out to the 3/6/2002 jar I have and everything's fine.

Yes, I reported this same bug to Mike in a private email. One of the upgrades causes it to not finish displaying the playlists on one of my two systems. I sent Mike a log trace, I think he's working on it.
