I've added a photo of a Mark 2 fitted to a Ford Ka to the preview page. The URL is www.empeg.com/preview/. Rob

What's the bit sticking out on the bottom slightly to the right of the four buttons? It's very visible on the Standalone and Merc pics, and I may just be imagining it on the Ka one.
Also - Anybody make out the text on the Ka pic? I've got:
----------------- About empeg-car Version 0.85 (Beta 13c) (c)1998-2000 empeg Ltd. www.empeg.com -----------------
OK. Sad I know, but I WANT ONE NOW. No. YESTERDAY.
Nick.

Not sticking out, indented in. Since the face and the handle are flush with each other, there is a "notch" which allows you to get your finger in there to pull out the handle.
Although in the Merc photo, it looks like some of the handle isn't actually black where the notch exposes it. That's what looks like it's "sticking out" to you. That could just be overexposure of the photograph, though.
Rob, more explanation?

You know, what you really need is an installation photo of a Mark 2 in a 2000 Honda Accord. Preferably a green one with a tan interior...

It doesn't look too great on time scales, but I believe production is now firmed up (we thought that before, though!).
We're getting a few players today which will be shown at our booth (#30) at the MP3 Summit in San Diego next week. We'll then get a small batch on or around Tuesday 27th which will ship immediately to clients, so some real customers will have players the week after next. Another 1000-ish players will start to ship around a week later, and we have another 1000 queued up behind those, pending availability of a few components.
We're still on track to clear the backlog over the next couple of months.

Yep, that's right, and the handle is totally matt black - it was an artifact of the photo that makes it look shiney.

I shall tease you by mentioning that I've just returned from the manufacturers with serial numbers 060000001, 060000002 and 060000003 - the first 3 boards through testing (I was down there today installing the functional and soak test rigs).
There are currently about 70 boards in existence, though only 3 are finished - the others should start going through testing starting tomorrow (Friday).

That's funny, I'm waiting to replace the hole in my head with a Mark 2. I hear that it has a lot of extra processing power. :)

In reply to:

So these 70 "boards" are the base electronics, without hard-drive, display and case? So, once they're tested...they get put into the empeg case, a FedEx box and then my hand?
The news is so unbearable, but maybe no news is worse...

Nah, I'm sure that any that go out from the first 70 will be to the Mark 1 owners. I'm before you in the queue, and I don't expect to get mine until the first big run. On the upside, though, we don't have to worry about switching out the buttons and dial...

Hopefully all players will ship with the correct plastic, as we've been told to expect it from the injection moulding company on Monday.

It's funny, but I was almost hoping to get one of the ones with the 'wrong' button plastic, just so I could say it was a 'limited edition' The uniqueness factor goes a long way, I still believe I have the only Mk1 in Northern Ireland... I know it was the first one shipped here at least Geoff ---- ------- Saving hard for a Mark 2...
