Uploading updated tunes to the Player

Hi everyone..
I've now had a empeg player for about 5 months, and it is
truly the best gadget i've ever brought! ..
I do however have a question...
All of my Mp3 files are stored on my PC in a directory
structure sorted by genre in the root, then artist, albums etc..
which i then upload to the player using emplode, creating
the playlists as it goes, which works fine.
What would be good would be to be able to read this
directory structure and upload any new or updated tunes since the last sync... is there anyway to do this?
I have considerd writing a scipt or app to FTP the files
across, but this is difficult as the files are not stored on
the player with their origional names.. or am i missing something?!
Anyone have any ideas about this?

jEmplode already does this, but I don't know how perfected this functionality is with regards to when you modify fields on the player, or modify the file on your PC. In other words, I'm not sure what it uses to determine uniqueness/duplicates. I think I remember running into an issue or two with it.
I thought this was suggested for Emplode, and I think it might actually be there in some form... But I haven't been following too closely. What I do now is manually drop my new MP3's into the PC's directory structure and immediately to Emplode. It's not convenient and a more robust sync mechanism would be nice... I think jEmplode's probably works better than I'm giving it credit for, I just wasn't mentally strong enough to use it exclusively in the case that something went wrong.

Assuming that you get the tags correct on the PC first, you can just drag the root of your music onto the "Playlists" node in emplode, and it'll grab anything that's not already there.

What criterion is used to determine if the files in the directory structure dragged onto the "playlist" node are new? Can "modified" files be identified (by what criterion?)?

Unfortunately, we don't keep the original path name on the player, so there's no way to tell if a file is new or modified -- if the tags match (for suitable values of "match"), then it's the same file.
We've got some ideas in this area, but they're definitely not going to make it into v2.0

Hmm.. Never thought of dragging the whole directory
structure in emplode again... interesting idea..
This would probably add all the new stuff, but probably
wouldn't update files which already exist but have been
updated..
I know that the origional filenames are not stored on the
player, but is the date/time of the files stored somewhere?

The date/time is not stored either. But it doesn't need to. At upload time, it checks to see if a song with the same parameters is already in that playlist, and if one is, it skips it as a duplicate.
I'm pretty sure you need to use the 2.0 software for this functionality, though.

Im pretty sure that emplode will add new tunes correctly, but im a bit dubious about doing this...
Had a problem before where i ended up duplicating lots of tunes on my player.. and im not sure how i did it (duplicates of songs in the same playlists)
I am using v2b11 (+Hijack)

Probably had Windows Shortcuts or M3U files pointing at the songs as described here.
You don't need to worry since the "duplication checker" happens before synch time. You drop the files onto Emplode, it tells you what was a duplicate, then you're free to dig through the tree and check to make sure you didn't add anything you didn't want to add before you actually hit the Synch button.

If you decide that it's completely screwed up, just do an advanced search for "new", and delete anything it finds.
