Is it possible to download everything from my empeg to my PC and retain the artist/album/title folders rather than get everything in one flat directory structure?

The hard drive with all my MP3's on has died and I need to recover everything (it's ether that or re-encode everything)

I believe this is possible with Jemplode. (could be wrong though)

Is there a way to make it leave out the main "playlists" directory when downloading yet leave the rest of the directory structure?

There are options to configure how things are downloaded. Instead of using playlists, I used the soup views to do my downloads. You configure the filename template (which can include subdirectories) in the options somewhere. I think I did "%Genre\%Artist\%Album\%Track" or something like that.

I tried doing it from the Albums soup view and it create albums/{albumname]/{trackname.mp3}

I also tried entering the directory structure in the filename/soup view filename format as in:
{artist}/{album}/{{tracknr:2} {artist} - {title}.mp3
But it didn't seem to like the /'s and entered _'s instead and just adding all that to the filename.

Perhaps you should try backslashes instead of forward slashes.

I love the irony of your BBS logon ID in this particular fiasco.

you mean my email address/domain name?

I bought that as a joke. It's hosted(dns/web/email) on a linux box.

No, I mean that your BBS login is "Lefty" and the error was with left and right slashes.

this might be a truly stupid question... but when I try the "download" feature on Jemplode... all I get is an "open" button for directory.... I can click it repeatedly and it appears to do nothing is there something special I have to do to make it start the file transfer?

if I remember right from the last time I used that feature you have to highlight the directory you want to download to and then click open.
