right after switching to 2.00.11beta (from 1.3) I got a funny little problem....
(winXP,USB,emplode, no mods, new unit never in car)
when I first start emplode 1 of a few things happen
a. starts up fine, no problem (yet)
b. can't init (halts at the second item in the list)

all I have to do is try, and try again and it'll work within a few tries

then if I try to sync the unit it will

a. work fine
b. download all songs, rebuild database, then halt when it tries to restart the unit
c. report to me that if can't find the unit

again, all I have to do is try, and try again and it'll work within a few tries

sometimes when I try to 'open' the player on a re-try it can't find it until I unplug and replug the usb. this does not always work.

it really seems that if I just keep trying it'll work.
I don't think there is anything I'm doing that creates the problem or solves it.

rebooting windows doesn't seem to have any effect, disconnecting the power supply to the riocar doesn't seem to have any effect.

it's a crap shoot each time.

these are the only faults I know of. but I'm still very new to the unit.

I tried re-updating
I have not switched back to 1.3 yet. and I rather not. all my files are sadly in WMA format.

I've really been hesitating putting this into the FAQ for a long time because it's supposed to get fixed soon. I don't like putting "bugs" in the FAQ unless they're critical. But I guess I'll have to for this one since it really is a question that's getting asked frequently.

USB is buggy under Windows XP. Use ethernet instead.

thank you for the super duper fast reply. I'll try (and try again) to get the ethernet working and report back.
do many users have the same problem?

Greetings!

Yes. This problem has really been around since XP came out, along with the earliest 2.0 betas. If you can get ethernet working, that is really your best answer.

Hmmm... I'm getting similar symptoms... I always have my player on when I run Emplode, but after updating songs, about 1 in 10 times the player does not automatically reboot - it either times out, or if I notice before that, I can physically unplug and replug the empeg and it continues where it left off.

It's never really bothered me, but I thought I'd mention it.

Oddly, I'm using Ethernet and Windows 2000...

That particular thing is a known bug in 2.0 beta 11 and will be fixed in the next release (already is fixed in the internal builds).

USB is buggy under Windows XP. Use ethernet instead.

If ethernet is not available, feel free to use serial while waiting on the empeg to rebuild the databases, furthur delaying the doomed RTA demo...
