I'm attempting the impossible - to fit new rear speakers to my VW Polo 3 door. I've got the grills off, but the hole behind the grill is approximately 130mm diameter - much smaller than the 165mm diameter speaker I'm trying to get out (and the new one I'm trying to get in, so bending the speaker is not an option)

So it looks as if I'm going to have to remove the back panels - easy, you say, except in the new VW interior look, the panel goes all the way from the front of the B pillar into the boot! And there's no visible screws.

Has anyone got any ideas as to how I even *begin* to get the speakers changed, without taking it to a professional installer?

Crutchfield should be able to supply you with a "Master Sheet" for the vehicle which shows exactly how to remove all speakers, dash panels, etc. It's what they're best at. For some installations, those master sheets are worth their weight in gold.

Make sure that you actually CALL crutchfiled rather than just visiting their web site. Their telephone techs are the best.

Oh, not only that, but they can also sell you plug adapters which allow you to plug your aftermarket speakers into the car without cutting any of the car's factory wiring.

Crutchfield is a US-only company, isn't it? It's gonna be hard for me to pop in - the nearest one is probably in the region of 3000 miles from here

Also, the VW Polo isn't a vehicle sold in America, so I doubt they'd be able to help much

Removing interior panals is not normally a gentle process it will involve lots of pulling and breaking noises but it will go back in.

Sheffield, verging on Leamington Spa. It's the Mk5 Polo (2000-2001) - not the brand new ugly one, but the subtly revised update to the Mk4, with clear headlights outside and a completely revised interior.
