Ok, here's a new thread so I don't keep posting to the CNC thread.

I'm done with the priming. I've been wet sanding with 2000 grit automotive paper. :) I'll now do a pass with some medium grit sandpaper to make some light scratches and then finish that off with the 1500 and 2000 grit again to smooth out those marks. Hopefully this will give me a nice brushed look when I apply the silver, instead of a dead flat finish.

I've also taken the powder coat off the handle and filled in the left divet with some epoxy. Needs more sanding still with a medium (400-600) wet paper, then a final sand and a clear coat.

Need to work on the permissions, there. I get a permission denied when I try and look at the pics...

Have you tried ScotchBrite? It's excellent for getting a brushed finish.

The wheels are pretty expensive for this one project. And then I don't really have something appropriate to attach them to. It would be a choice between: hand drill, drill press, 12" compound mitre saw or hand-held grinder. :)

I see they also have sheets for hand-finishing, so the question now is where do I get them and how soon can I get them? I have to go out and get more paper, so I'll take a look when I'm out for that this week. Thanks.

Ok, fascia and handle in silver now. Clear coat applied to handle already, needs just final sanding. No clear coat on fascia yet (about to do first in a few minutes).

Ok, here they are on the player. Yes, the curve on the left blocks the text a bit more from the driver's side. I can live with this for now until I come up with something else or until someone starts making some aluminum fascias of a different design.

Click the attachment link to the left.

Oh, about the cap bolts... Currently they have some silver paint on them - I'm going to remove the paint because they look better in their natural silver (you have to sand/grind the black off them to see their natural colour). The bolts are close to the fascia because I stuck them in my dremmel and spun them against a grinding disc for a while - I'd say I took off at least 1/3 of the original cap height. I left enough of the hex pattern to still use the allen key.

Boy! What a masochist. It would have been a lot easer to get a set of stainless steel screws.

I couldn't find a set of M3 cap bolts or screws in two places I went to. :) I didn't feel like going to one place which I think might have them as it was out of the way. Getting their colour to silver takes only a couple of seconds each with some sand paper and the dremmel. It's shaving off 1/3 their height that takes a bit more time. I had to keep pausing and cooling them off as they'd get extremely hot - which can cause them to discolour. :)
