For those of you wanting to travel to the meet by International train (such as the Eurostar, Thalys, or ICE links) it is possible to travel direct to AMERSFOORT as well as the local station AMERSFOORT-SCHOTHORST mentioned in the announcement. At both stations you should catch the number 12 bus to the event. Connections from Belgium go through Rotterdam or Amsterdam (Thalys/NS/BS, Eurostar from Paris, Liege & London); direct ICE connections from Germany (ICE/DB) go through Amsterdam; there are good regular connections from Rotterdam and Amsterdam to Amersfoort and Amersfoort-Schothorst. Normal sleeper cars from Germany, Switzerland and Denmark go through to Amersfoort Central direct (note you will need to book sleeper cars direct with your local train company). I'd be prepared to collect people from either station if you were really stuck.

Although the announcement states the meet begins at 12 PM, that is the official program start time. We will be greeting people with cups of coffee from 11 AM onwards in the hotel car park, so you can turn up a little earlier if you like! The program of events lasts all day (until 6 PM anyway) with Rob and the guys putting in a lot of hard work to show you the very latest, still-under-the-covers stuff that no-one has seen yet. Be there!

See you there in Emiclaer!

Does anyone have any web sites that give directions in Europe?

I really want to come, but I have to be back in the UK on the night of the 27th - I've got a very early start on the 28th.

How long do people think it's going to take to drive over from the UK?

Cheers,

Paul.

If you drive via Calais (Chunnel or the ferries) we normally average 3.5 hours Calais-Amersfoort at 120 km/h. It's all motorway. You can shorten it by about half an hour if you cane it, but you are at risk of getting pulled in Belgium.

If you come over on the early boat from Harwich (the overnight) you are about one hour away from Amersfoort. This is again, all motorway. There is an early evening boat back to Harwich (I think at about 7:30 PM) so you would need to be leaving Amersfoort around 5 PM.

If anyone wants motorway directions from Calais or Rotterdam, please ask.

Rob,

That would be Harwich -> Hoek (Hook?) in Holland, right?

MapQuest actually seems to give quite accurate information about what road to take..

Yup, Hoek van Holland, about one hour from Amersfoort.

We'll be coming over on the Harwich-Hoek HSS ferry - it's damn fast and has pretty good facilities. The downside is that the schedule is set up to get people from the continent to the UK for a full day - going the other way requires leaving quite early.

I have updated the original announcement with new details supplied by Rob S.

Please note that you can't post to the Announcement forum, so direct any replies to this forum.

Rob,
You must be getting the overnight then?

Stenaline say the following:

To Holland
Depart Arrival
10.40 15.20
19.20 23.55

From Holland
Depart Arrival
07.20 10.10
16.00 18.50

This means that I'll need to leave the meet at 14:30 (at the latest) to get the ferry.

Doesn't look like I'm going to be able to make it unfortunately.

Paul.

Yeah as I said, the HSS times are inconvenient for the UK to Holland direction. We're travelling over on Saturday and coming back on Monday, as it is a bank holiday.
