Yes, I believe I've seen it in a Golf IV. (not 100% sure, but 95%)

What the heck is it for my golf has one. The sales person said it is suposed to be a sun visor is that true ?

Yes, I have on in my Golf IV. Wasn't in the older Golf III.

I think it is, so that you can block the sun coming in over your rearview mirror.

I just found that same thing on my AUDI TT Sunday when I was cleaning it up. I guess it should be no surprise since Audi and VW share so many parts.

I thought it was a very clever sun blocker. Now if I can only remember to use it...

Yes. Not in any of the A3 platform cars though. One of my customers moved here from the UK last week and had never seen one before. Wanted to know if they had them over there.

They've definitely been around for a while - although I didn't spot mine in my first Golf until I'd had it about 15 months
In fact it was my youngest brother who found it, by accident, while bouncing a bottle of Irn Bru off the windscreen...long story. And expensive.
