Have a couple of suggestions for future features -- I'm not sure if these have been mentioned before:

1. Display "Time Remaining" while playing a track, instead of just the elapsed time. For some odd reason or another, I prefer it this way.

2. While listening to the music with full visuals on, have a line of text on the bottem appear briefly when a new song starts. This would just display the name of the song for say, like 3-5 seconds and then disappear.

3. If the name of the song is longer then what the empeg display can show at one time, have it scroll to display the full title.

1. Common question (hey 's what I was told ). Not possible with the current decoding engine (xaudio, right ?). Strange thing is I have seen other xaudio-based systems do this though. Not naming names.

2+3. Sounds like a good idea. I don't think it is in there already.

Cheers,
Hans

1 and 2 are both done, along with lots of other related enhancements in v1.1. Our solution for the first request is a little hacky, but effective - emplode works out the track length at sync time and stores it in the database.

For 3, the track title does scroll in line mode, but I guess you mean you want it to scroll on the full info (and maybe now&next) modes as well. That could be fiddly, but would be cool.

Will emptool be able to do that too? Or will the track length be a settable tag?

Thanks,
Borislav

Wow... it's kind of a weird feeling when you have an idea and submit it as a suggestion, only to find out it's already been done for the next release!

For #3 -- Yea, I should have been a little more specific and mention that I was referring to full info display. Honestly, I didn't even know it scrolled in line mode until I drove to the SF Bay Area today and fiddled with it as I was driving.
If this mode already does it, then it shouldn't be to hard to move that routine over to the full info screen as well, right? or am I missing something by not having looked at the code just yet?

I assume that emptool will be updated appropriately. There will also be a utility to scan your existing music and update the tags.

Greetings!

Hmm... A tag update built into emptool. That would be useful. I hope that would also wind up in emplode as well. If that could be tied to the "mark tag" feature, that would make review and correction of tags very easy to do!

That's not what I was getting at. The tags we're talking about here are database entries for playlength and one or two other statistics used by a future release of the software.

You can update all the other information already - but only within the empeg database. The ID3 tags aren't used at all after the initial upload.

Yes, but unfortunately some other cool ideas have already been told as new features coming soon ... and aren't here for more than a 1/2 year now (VR)

Am I the only one who is looking forward to this cool thing (for such a long time now)?

VR will come - but one of the major problems is that we don't write VR software. Someone else does. If their software isn't ready yet, there's not a lot we can do except to wait.

Voice Recognition is something that has taken YEARS of development on the PC's to get anything near usuable, and it's still far from being perfect. I think the first time I remember it making headway was something like 7 years ago, and even now (in my opinion) it is not a viable option to PCs. For empeg to offer this as a future add-in is a way for being "future-proof" as they have previously put it, but to me it was not a selling point, in the same manner I have never decided to plunk any money down to try software for the PC.

Now this is nothing against empeg or it's developers, and it's a cool feature to look forward to but I wouldn't hold my breath for it
