Are you looking for how to set up the drives to start with, or how to enable the larger FID counts? The FID counts only really matter on a very full player.

Download the latest version of the software from the thread you linked to. Start from the bottom and work your way up the thread to get the latest (I think it is v7)...

Load hijack, if you have not already done so. This (at minimum) gives you an ftp daemon on the player.

Follow Mark's instructions, that I have quoted below.
site rw
cd /empeg/bin
chmod 755 set_empeg_max_fix.v7
site exec /empeg/bin/set_empeg_max_fix.v7
site ro
site reboot

This should work. If, for some reason you find that it does not, post your errors here for further checking. Worst case (if you do not have the network settings configured on your player), you can always upload it via serial and run it from the console of the player...

Is your player itself connected to the network? If so, from the (assuming windows) box you have the file on, do Start, Run, "ftp ip.address.of.player". It will ask you for a username - hit return. You should now be logged into the player via FTP. Type in the commands that Mark listed (and I copied in the thread above in italics). That should do it.

Ah, I think for the DOS FTP program it's something like LITERAL SITE RW or perhaps QUOTE SITE RW, I don't remember exactly.

But I think you really need to get the file onto the player first using one of these methods.

Good point about getting the file onto the player. Since FTP was involved, I thought it was sending the file to the player. Not the case. Still, this should be easy either through FTP itself or uploading.

If LITERAL does not work, try QUOTE.
