I don't *THINK* that's the case... I'm using the rear outs to drive my sub. I am pretty sure I'd notice if the sub was beating beating the crap out of me..

That's not the way a fader works. When the fader is in the center position, the front and back are at full volume. When you fade to the back, the front speakers get quieter but the rear speakers stay the same.

So in your case, if the fader was accidentally set several notches to the rear, you would expect the overall volume to sound softer without an increase in the volume of the subwoofer.
