Can we just make sure that in the end, when all is said and done, we will still have a way for people like me, who don't want to undertake learning XML right now, to be able to create or modify these templates to suit our needs?

I'm fine if the more xml-centric stuff can be abstracted and I'm left with the ability to just style the page with some rather plain html.

My initial thoughts were of simplicity for Mark as well as for anyone wanting to customize. Don't want to lose sight of that even though we're going forward with "cool stuff"(tm) that can serve a much larger future purpose.
