You won't necessarily get "crap sound". Others who have done it this way say it actually sounds pretty good if you use a decent-quality adapter.

And what's the difference if your factory stereo says "AUX" on the front or "FM 87.9" on the front? It doesn't matter what the factory stereo says, as long as it does the job of putting music out through the speakers.
