I also found that the replacement cable still gave me the errors. For some reason the way that the cable lays flat over the drives seems to affect it. I don't know whether this is physical or a possible emi problem, but I played with the creases in the cable so that the cable is kinda wedged against the display board and I haven't seen the problem since.
