It would seem to me that if advertisement skipping became a standard feature on DVR devices that we would see an increase of the far more annoying 'banner' advertising superimposed on top of the content. I for one, find this much, much more annoying and am quite happy to see automatic commercial skip go by the wayside if it means that banners stay relatively rare. I think that fast forwarding commercials isn't a bad compromise. I think that eventually advertisers will realize that users have to watch while fast forwarding as opposed to getting up, flipping the channel or other less 'productive' (from the advertiser's point of view) action.
