Remember that it's not quite as simple as "drawing a picture" for the machinist. The docking connector has to be aligned almost perfect, and the tolerances for the sled itself are rather slim. You need to make it tight enough to hold the Empeg so it doesn't fall out of the dashboard when you step on the brakes, but loose enough so that it doesn't take a weightlifter to pull it out.

Anyone making a custom Mk1 sled would probably need to hang on to the Mk1 itself for a while so that they can do some trial and error work.

Although one advantage to having a custom-made sled would be that you could give it the perfect mounting connection points to fit your car.
