Also, you may check the Goodwill & Salvation Army (US) dropoff boxes...It's a long shot, but a reformed car audio thief gave an interview that said he and his buddy would just hit up a bunch of cars and not be particular, then they would drive over to a dropoff box and dump what they couldn't figure out.
