Final question (for now anyway):

Where did you get/what did you use for a harness adapter? Just one of these? Guess I should get to and order one if I'm going to at least try this.

Also I'm going to have a proper crack at getting the CD stacker to work too. It happens regularly enough for me to still want a CD changer - time to write some custom empeg software I think. Damn and I want to do OBD2 as well....
