Ah. Important. Two ideas: check the GPU cooling. You might want to take it off and refresh the silver paste, and double-check that the GPU fan is OK. Another thing you might want to do is update the video drivers. This last one's a long shot, but newer drivers might be more efficient (lower temperature), or they might be more robust (less oddness).

First, though, I'd get hold of SpeedFan (or similar: software that can read the GPU temps) and see what happens when you're next playing full-screen video.
