This is exactly the only issue I have with hiding my equipment. I suppose those people using receivers and pre-processors for video switching might have an overlay onto their display of volume and other audio adjustments, but I'm doing video switching on a different device.

Really fancy setups with two-way controllers can even get the volume setting back from the equipment and then display it for you on your remote.
