http://www.thundercloud.net/infoave/images/2011/av-1.pngI had to turn off AVG's "Resident shield" and one other component as it unacceptably slowed the 'puter down. Also, on my mom's 'puter, AVG totally ignored a virus she got, it turns out AVG didn't even know about it, and the virus had been around a couple of years already. This was about a year ago.
MSE has a setting to "monitor file and program activity" which I had to set to "incoming files only" for a similar reason.
I am considering giving Avast a try.
