For quality, I see Oppo is highly recommended, though I have no experience with them myself. It's what I would buy if I was in the market however. Or a PS3 for the reasons Tony mentioned. Can't really go wrong at $250 (tops) for a PS3. The IR adapters at $100 are a little pricy though.
