This is a bit more specialized than "simply a Linux question."
You are trying to set up a specialized chunk of hardware on a Raspberry Pi. The RP is nothing special -- Linux is pretty much the same regardless of the hardware platform. But I know nothing of the touchscreen or its driver. Hopefully somebody else here can chime in about that though.
