Yes - it's connected to the aux in on the head unit (a Premier DEX-P1R). I use the Premier remote for both, with the help of Mark Lord's Hijack kernal. The facia I was talking about was the Empeg fascia - the mold used to make them is pretty much worn out and there is no remaining stock that I am aware of. I managed to get a spare fascia before they all evaporated... I'm sure the Explorer panel is not that hard to replace (your local junkyard probably has a bunch of them), although you shouldn't have to if you trim it carefully.
