Alright....here's the situation.

I've had my Rio MarkIIa installed in my car for close to 4 months now...and everything has been working perfectly up until about a month ago. The first thing I noticed that was a little strange was that occasionally when I would boot up the player it would boot up normally, start playing, but all I would hear would be loud pops and clicking noises. It did this numerous times over the last month, but would go away when I reinserted the player into the sled.

Now, about a week ago, on some music tracks, I am getting what sounds like some form of digital distortion when the music is playing...and it is very noticeable when the volume is relatively loud. When playing a different track from a totally different CD, it seemed to go away...

I know it isn't anything else in my car system....I have the Rio hooked into an Alpine head unit and CDs play back perfectly fine in there.

Any suggestions? Maybe there is something actually wrong with my beloved Rio?

Yeah, like Micheal said, what version of the software is installed on the player (use the ABOUT menu on the player's main screen)?

You are describing something that sounds like a known bug in software version 2.0 beta 3. If that's what you're running, please upgrade to Emplode version 2.0 beta 13 and also upgrade the player software to 2.0 beta 13.

If you are running 1.03 final or are already running 2.0 beta 13, then it might indicate drive trouble or RAM trouble and you might have to contact support.

I am familiar with the problems of distorted sound in some versions of the software....I am using beta 13 currently. Is there some way that my files may have been corrupted somehow? I think I am going to try reloading some of the music and see if that makes any difference...otherwise it looks like I may need to contact support....

Yes, if you were having disk drive or cable trouble. Or if the files were corrupted to begin with (play them on your PC and see if they are OK, run them through MP3trim to see if they are corrupted).
