I just thought that I'd show up today and let all of you know that there's nothing about my empeg that isn't working right. I mean, it fits in my dash, it plays music, and it shows me the title of the music, as well as some pretty pictures. It's all pretty neat.
Is there anything any of you can do to help me out with that?

Okay... Point taken... (If anyone is confused, see this thread.)
But, now that you mentioned it, my players are working well also. Oh, a quirk here and there of my own undoing (too many FIDs, not enough scratch partition), but I can live with that.

Actually, thanks to Doug Burnside, I'm up and running again too. I installed a 10gig HD to my player yesterday that he sold me at a generous price. I was down for 2 weeks with a dead disk (yes...my magic knee finally ran out of magic.) But, I'm happy to report that both my wife and I have great working players and they bring us much joy

I'm sorry, but I can't help you to get your empeg to not work.
I got my mk1 in september '99, and the problems I've had were 2 crashes (power off, power on, fixed)... Yes, it has fscking crashed... TWICE EVEN!!!... in about 4 years and 3 months...

If you need it unrepaired, I'm sure my soldering skills would do the trick

Is your magic knee anything like a lucky fin? I've only seen part of Finding Nemo, so I can only guess that it is...

your knee is abnormally small and will cause you to swim in circles if not wiggled fast enough?

Sure. I'll send you my address, and you can fedex your empeg to me!

Both my empeg and karma are both working. My rio central is also working but I wish I could update the firmware on it.

I can't get it to work. When I burn the iso and try to install it the central says the file is invalad (can't remember the exact error)

Ah, I remember. And that was with both files, not just the big one, right?
Have you burned ISO's before and had them be successful? In other words, you're actually burning the ISO and not just burning an ISO file onto the root directory of a Joliet disc?
And if you don't know the difference, then that's probably the problem.
Also, is it possible that the download got corrupted? Did you use GetRight to grab the file?

I am burning it as an iso and not just sticking it on a disk I have burned them before for other things (linux distros) . I just go file, open, and browse to the iso. The central does see the disk as an upgrade but it fails after trying to do the update.
I have been trying the small file I downloaded it several times I didn't try getright though.

Although I sometimes ask silly questions about some technical tweaks, my empeg has always worked perfectly...
Except when I have personally made it unwork by trying to be too clever.
Even then, it always works again as soon as I put on a sensible .upgrade. So I am very happy with it. I am also delighted with Mark Lord's additions - and the fact that although I am not quite technical enough to safely play with kernel/filesystem etc. so should leave well alone I still get support from the guys here to help me rectify my mistakes.
Big W00t from me!

My empeg works great, even after being on the receiving end of a soldering iron and LED's... It's never let me down, til that whole v3 alpha 5 nightmare. Ugg, my player pretty much puked all over itself over that ordeal. Only dead for a couple of days, but all is well and good in my little land of empegness...
