Looking for Earphones

I am in the market for a new set of earphones and I am looking for some suggestions. I will be using these primarily at the gym and I would like them to be in ear style. I was thinking about set of Fontopias but, I am worried that they will keep falling out while running. And obviously I do not want them to sound like crap. Anyone have any suggestions?

I think that this subject has been beaten to death several times recently, although I'm too lazy to search out the posts...you may want to try that though.

try here - I go for the Sony's, which Tony Fabris recommended to me, the sound's unbeatable, but they are very fragile, the Sony Centre in Leeds just exchanged the pair that I have only used lightly (No jogging, No walking even) since July 1 last year.

Already searched the BBS and read all the posts. They do not speak much of being good for exercising and running however. If I was just interested in sound quality it would be a lot easier. But when you are running it is hard to keep them from popping out of your ears. So I am looking to see if anyone has any feed back on say the fontopias for staying in the ear while working out and running. Or any other brand that has a decent compromise of sound quality, and the abliity to stay in my ear over a five mile run. I had an Ipod and those were not bad earphones for staying in while running.....but they broke. Now I have a Nitrus and the Sennheisers that come with it may sound pretty good but they do not stay in the ear for very long before they fall out when I am running. So now I am trying to find a new pair.

The fontopias aren't great for staying in your ear during activity. I always have to adjust them, also the long cord and connector bounce around a lot which makes them come out. Ive been tempted to get some sorta clip and clip the connector to my shirt so it doesnt bounce around.

One of the three sizes of gaskets with the Fontopias, should make them fit. For walking the dogs (which is the nearest I get to jogging) I have a set of Philips headphones, made for joggers, which have a loop encircling the ear, sound quality isn't bad, but a compromise, I accept, and they would be very hard to dislodge

Well it's an easy choice really.
I use the Sony MDR-EX71SL in the gym. They have never fallen out, remove loads of backgound noises and sound really really good, on the down side they are expensive (but worth it!) and hurt my ears a little after about 30/45 mins (but thats just me). I wouldn't use them on the train, but for the gym they are perferct.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
Cris.

Actually that is exactly the type of earphone I think would work best. How is the sound quality with those? I ultimately think that the type with the loop would be best for me...I did once have a pair of cheap Radio sahck ones like that but they broke quite quickly.

As I say, OK, but don't expect to match Phontopias etc., I'll post a model no. when I get home, but I'm not sure whether they're current.

the long cord and connector bounce around a lot
A 3.5mm stereo plug and socket, a piece of light coax cut to exactly the right length for your body and ten minutes with a soldering iron will sort that one.
Oh, and before you solder the second end, thread the coax through the hole in a perfectly ordinary small stationery crocodile clip and knot it, to attach to your jogging kit.

SBCHS310/11/12 - I think in order of quality.
I can only find them on the UK Philips site, I can't navigate to them on the US site, but I can't imagine they're not sold worldwide.

The thought of the aligator clip never occured to me, this would probably work quite well though. As to the soldering, im not great on it , and anything I make would look too sloppy.

Do you use the extension with the headphones? I mean without it mine wouldnt bounce around, but it would just be way too short. Also some of the local store are carrying those fontopias for $ 35.00 or so like circuit city.

There are two different Fontopia models, both of which seem to have the same buds. I'm not sure what the difference is, but I have the cheaper ones and they don't separate. It's just the buds and a non-detaching cord.

Extension????
One cord is longer than the other, if thats what you mean.
The short one goes in your left ear, the other around the back of your neck to your right, this way they never come out as most of the weight of the cable is on the back of your neck, not flapping around in front of you.
Is that what you mean by extension???
Edit - Doh! just had a look at the link I posted to the Sony site, it does show an extension cord, not sure why but I don't have one??? Maybe I have a slightly older model? My cord is about 75cm long. $35!!! I paid £35 at the very same Sony Centre as boxer! Why is everything SO expensive over here?
Cheers
Cris.

My Sony's have an extension lead.
Plan B: Make a loop in your cord, where you want the crocodile clip, feed it through the hole on the crocodile clip, feed the plug and headphones through the loop and pull tight to form a knot*, take a rubber band in the right hand, coil the excess cable round your 1st, 2nd & 3rd fingers, secure excess cable with rubber band.
*for the perfectionist, put a grommet in the hole on the crocodile clip to avoid chafing.
From: Mrs. Beaton's jogging with MP3's for the Victorian Lady.
The return of the site has given me verbal diarrhoea, don't take me too seriously! Thankyou, Thankyou, Thsnkyou Drakino for getting it back and running so quickly, sorry you've had to put up with the, obviously very stressful last 48 hours.
