Does anyone know of a mp3 player that can record from a mic input directly to mp3 such that the mp3 can then be downloaded onto a pc for archival purposes.

I need something that can record for as long as 8-10 hours (preferably) at times without a break.

Any leads???

Thanks!

edit : anyone have anyexperience with the Creative Labs Zen Micro ?

Depending how "pro" you want to be, how about this thing? It won't do 8-10 hours without mains power, though.

Beautiful!. I have to do some more digging on that one!

Mains power is not an issue as it will be used to record meetings in one of our boardrooms.

Thanks for that one... anybody else??

I'd recommend this after having used one. It might be a little out of your price range. However, the quality is really good.

Before putting down any money on one of those I would strongly suggest borrowing mine for the 10 minutes it will take to change your mind.

1. Buy a decent PZM mic

2. Buy a Tascam "portable" recorder

Not cheap, but the industry standard for board rooms (that or Marantz).

Or if you want to do it on the cheap, there's always this.

Don't the new iPods (with Video) support recording out of the box? (by adding a mic)

Hmmm.... we've had one of these since they were released 6 months (or more) ago. One of the most frequently heard epithets in this office is "This effing heap of camel poo!!" or similar.

It has real problems. Not sure this is a good choice.

As I sit at my desk putting the CompactFlash card back in this unit after clearing it off umpteen thousand times (well, maybe umpteen hundred times), I had a memory of an effing piece of camel poo.

Imagine, after 13 years, we are still using it without any issue!
