My boot is now home to a very stealth McIntosh amp and crossover installation. Prestige Audio custom built me a false boot floor to completely conceal the system, and leave me with a LOT of boot space. Actually more than I've ever had in an MG, thanks to removing the spare wheel (2 cans of Tyreweld replace it). However, I could still put the spare wheel back in as it fits over the false floor. I like having a full boot though (and a lighter, faster car). Attached pic is of the false floor in place.

I don't want to rain on any parades... but have you given any thought to cooling that equipment when the cover is in place?

I don't know how much heat a McIntosh MCC446 amplifier generates (that will be a function of the rated power of the amp and the efficiency of the design and components of the amp) but it looks like that amp and crossover seal up pretty tightly in a small, well-insulated space with no external source of ventilation.

Chances are it will be all right, but you should toss a thermometer in there to keep it company and then after a few hours of use go back and take a quick look at temperatures, both air temperature and the temperature of the amp itself, probably there is a heat sink on the back of the amp for the output transistors. If you are finding any temperatures back there in excess of about 140 degrees F (60 degrees C) then you might want to take measures to lower them.

It is a very nice, clean installation, and I like that you haven't ruined the utility of the car, taking up every bit of room with amplifiers and subwoofers, etc. Does it sound as good as it looks?

Prestige and I chatted about this. The Mac has it's own fans, and if they decide the cover needs help with circulation they will fit fans in the side of the box to draw air in. It's going back next week for the sub, so I'm sure they'll figure it out then. It's sounds nice, but it's lacking a little something (ie: the subwoofer). Imaging is good though. Right out of the dash vents!

As long as Elvis Costello isn't coming out of your dash vents. I think that would be uncomfortable for the poor guy.
