I installed my tuner last night. I got no Led and could not get the unit to switch to tuner mode. I do have 1.03 installed.

Also, what are the two free wires on the tuner connecting harness, not the extension cable, but the connecting harness.
There are two free wires extending from the connector that do not connect into the empeg harness connector. What are these for? I read that the extension cable has wires for antenna lead but the pin locations are different than these two wires.

Is the tuner module supposed to be connected to ground?

What am I missing that is making the tuner not work or should I just contact support?

Thanks.

Is it just me, or does that sound like wires have pulled loose from the connector, and that's probably the root of the problem?

In any case, if you can't get your tuner to work, contact empeg support and have them walk you through diagnosing the fault.

The wires are much shorter than the other wires and there are no pins on them.
It is possible that the harness wasn't constructed properly but this would have had to have been grossly overlooked by the QA persons.

I take it there aren't any loose wires on anyone elses empeg? Question....
hmmm. I don't want to have to send my sled in to be fixed but if that's what it comes down to I will. Maybe they can cross ship me one.

Thanks for at least getting back to me. There was another users who seems to be having the same problem but I don't know if his wires are in the same condition.

Try plugging the tuner straight into the harness from the cage ... try not using the tuner's extension cable... if I hear you guys right, that extension cable has loose wires. There should be two types of wire ... black and blue ... black wires should be fully connected. There should be one blue wire for the antenna power that is free-floating...

Hello Frank,

I had yesterday the same problem. I did try with and without the Tuner extension cable. 1.03 is installed. But not LED and no Menu extension. I did recognize that the blue cable from the Mount Kit is not connected! Strange.....:-(

I will bring my car next week to the shop, where they did install the Empeg. Maybe it helps!

Is there a way to test witch color is for witch signal?

bye

If you have a faulty loom they'll probably send you a new one to fit yourself. It's easy to fit - just two bolts.

That would be great!
I'll take a picture of what I've got tonight and post it up to the board tomorrow.
It's been this way the whole time. I'll be glad to get it working.

Actually, the ground pin connector on the docking sled came apart several months ago. I tried to crimp it back together but I don't have the right tool. Plus, since I took it apart, the pin doesn't stay in the connector very well now.
All in all, it'd be great to get a new loom.

Okay, here's the picture.
Can someone please confirm for me that it's not the way it is supposed to look?
I wish I would've taken care of this a long time ago but obviously, I didn't think it was out of the norm until I tried to hook up the tuner module. I'm anxious to get everything working.
Then, if I could just fix that darn ground loop noise.

The only flying lead should be the Blue one. Well, that's if mine was correct. It certainly seems to be working great now that I've connected the Blue wire to my antenna amp. Hope this helps.

I don't think it's supposed to look like that. The black wire looks wrong.

Maybe it's a ground wire and connecting it will solve both problems. I don't know where to connect it, though...

I had that notion too, like the tuner needs it's own ground or something and the blue was the antenna lead if you don't use the extension cable.
There was nothing in the documentation to indicate this so I wasn't about to go hooking random wires up.

Thanks everyone for your help.

FYI (I see you're getting a new loom), the blue wire should be connected into the existing blue wire (amp remote) and the black wire should be connected to the existing black wire (empeg ground). There is a point in the cable where these "Y" off - you should be able to see the heatshrink.

This is where they have come from. I've not seen a harness like that though, if they fail they usually pull out of the crimps on the back of the sled...

In my opinion, when the harness was built, these wires were cut to the wrong length and when the crimping operation was performed, they just weren't connected on both sides.

I thought I remember hearing these were hand made becuase the tool to assembly line them was expensive.

No worries. I'm totally cool with this and I'm glad it's getting fixed. In my book, the little inconvenience is worth having an empeg.

The crimping is done by machine; the whole harness simply can't be made by machine as machines aren't available which can do all the complex things needed - various splices, different wire types (mixed coax, single core, multicore), etc.

Also, in the volumes we made them, anything but hand assembly isn't cost effective.

I had an "alternator whine" or ground loop noise for the last year. Got so fed up that I brought it to an install shop to try and get them to fix it once and for all. Finally, we figured out that I my Alpine 4 channel amp had one flaky channel! Scrapped the whole amp and went with a JL Audio 300/4 amp...

MUCH BETTER! Man, that was driving me absolutely batty!

Usually I listen to it loud enough so that it doesn't really bother me. When I have a passenger and we're chatting, I get really miffed.
I probably just need to turn down the gain on my amps. I know it's not in the head unit wiring unless the new loom fixes it. I've played with the wires every way I can think of.

Yeah, I'd say it's a pretty complicated connector. Seems to be pretty reliable though. I had a Kenwood that wouldn't seat properly after 6 months of use.

I know you're getting a new one, but the antenna has a grounded shield and that should at least supply ground.

Sounds exactly like the problem I had way back when, and never got resolved since I've been away. Please post if the new loom solves the problem, and I'll request the same. I'll take another look at my connections in the morning. I think I have the 2 flying leads (blue and black) also...
