http://tuxscreen.net/ is the failed StrongArm-based Philips/Lucent web phone. Totally useless, except for the
fact that you can get Linux running on it. It has a good, big color LCD, PCMCIA, DSP, phone handset, IR remote keyboard...

I'm going to use a couple of these for my home entertainment system, potentially feeding both my empegs and my Rio Receivers, if we ever get streaming and uncompressed WAV support

With the project dead, and without additional hacking beyond installing some software, what is the current functionality when one of these units arrives at your doorstep? ie. within a day or two, what can I use it for?

One of these showed up in our chill out area (on top of the RTV4000 stack ) the other week. We all crowded round and poked at it a bit (Hugo took it apart of course) and then everyone got bored and went away.

Maybe we'll think of a use for it one day.

I'm the most hardware guy in the office, I just don't do PCB layout or schematic capture... I still design stuff, solder down/remove SMT components and fix things... I don't make jet engines or own a lathe though, so it's not *real* hardware :)

Pretty much nothing. But if you actually put Linux on it (straightforward), you have a quiet, fast-starting user interface box for a home entertainment system or whatever. That might even work as a voice-over-IP phone or intercom.

Well, the way I intend to use it is have one in each room, as the user interface, with a Rio Receiver driving the speakers, fetching stuff from my 1-terabyte Cheap IDE RAID Box.
