the mark 1 and mark 2 have very different sleds. the new one will not work in the old one and vice versa.

The empeg (MK2) can use the Riocar sled and visa-versa. I'm doing that right now.

Do you have a Mk2 and a Mk2a or a Mk1 and a Mk2? There was a thread recently about Mk2a's that wouldn't power where Mk2's would... it was a wiring issue. I'll try and find it. You can use a Mk2a in a Mk2 sled, no problems (afaik).

HERE it is.

Sorry I misspoke, I am successfully using an empeg (MK2) & a riocar (MK2a) in an empeg (MK2) sled. The riocar sled I have not tried.

Right, as Loren said, there is a wiring problem with your Mk2 sled. The Mk2 has actually not been working correctly this entire time, it has been limping along, not doing the right stuff with the ignition on/off. You never knew any better because you didn't know what it's supposed to be doing in these cases.

You need to make sure that the sled's ignition-switched wire turns on and off with the car's ignition, and that its permanent 12-volt wire is really getting a steady 12 volts all the time. There might be a blown fuse on one or both of these wires, so check everything carefully.

(Edit: I did not mean to reply to Rtundo for this, I meant to reply to Amold. I am assuming that Amold is using a Mk2 sled with a Rio Car. If Amold is trying to use a Mk1 sled, I'm surprised he can even get it to plug in.)

could you elaborate on how exactly it's supposed to work ? it seems to turn on and off with the ignition.
Also, if I understand correctly, wires 1 and 14 (from the riocar.org page information) are incorrectly wired in my car ?

If it's completely shutting off with the ignition, that's your problem. It's supposed to go into standby mode when you shut off the ignition.

ok, now i'm confused again. I read the FAQ section on the player not going into standby mode and it says

"If the player goes into full-power-off mode instead of standby mode, you probably have the Negative Spike bug. See the next entry (below) for a description"

the same entry says that if i have the wires switched, the player will keep playing instead of going to standby.

The Neg. spike would sort of kick the empeg into full unconcsioussness(sp?) without letting it go to sleep...

Sounds to me like the fuse on the memory wire is broken, or wire not properly connected; in this case the MkII will be powered through the ignition sense line (obviously only when the key is "on"). This could cause bad things to happen in some fault cases (burnt out tracks on the circuit board etc) so this behaviour was changed on the MkIIa. The MkIIa can not be powered solely through the ignition sense line...

So AFAIK, a cradle with correctly wired ignition sense but somehow broken supply on the memory line wouldn't let a MkIIa operate at all, while a MkII would come on off with the key but not enter stand-by mode.

The FAQ is assuming you're wired properly and there are no fuses blown. I will edit it to make that statement now.

There is probably more than one fuse on this wire. Among them will be the fuse on your car's main fuse panel, as well as an inline fuse on the yellow wire.
