I came in today and hooked up my RioCar to my ethernet cable, external power, and my set of RCA cables at my desk. I then fired up emplode and saw another RioCar on the network. Wow.

Whats to keep that other user from connecting to my RioCar and deleting all my music? I connected to his and I could have done anything that I wanted. I dont think I like that. Any ideas on what I can do to protect it while its on a large lan?

There is currently no password protection built in to the car player. They have implemented password protection on the HSX-109, but there is no word on when that feature will get ported to the car player.

In the meantime, you can work around it two ways:

1) Use USB to connect the player to your work PC.

2) Put the player on a fixed IP address in a different subnet, as described here.

Hijack v182, place this into config.ini:

[hijack]
;@WORK disable_emplode=1
;@WORK kftpd_password=c00lDo0d35
;@WORK khttpd_files=0

Or instead of the last line above, maybe disable it completely:

;@WORK khttpd_port=0

If you have any ";@WORK" or ";@HOME" lines in config.ini, then there will be (v182) a Hijack menu entry for "Home/Work Location". Use that.

Cheers

Interesting. This is what I have in my config.ini file (at the very top) and I dont have the Home/Work menu option in the Hijack menu. Yes I do have 182 on it. :-)
Did I do something stupid?

[hijack]
kftpd_password=passhere
khttpd_files=1
;@WORK disable_emplode=1

Are you sure this is all there is? I take it you've tried scrolling up & down using the volume knob?

Mark, everything worked fine when the unit was in the office, but when I put it in my car, Hijack said there were errors with the config file. I switched it to @home and it did the same thing.

Connect to the serial port, and reboot. The errors will be noted somewhere near the bottom of the subsequent output.

You can "simulate" DC/Car mode at the home/office, using the "Force Power Mode" option from the Hijack menu.. just don't forget to set it back to normal after you finish with it.
