Much to my joy, I joined the Empeg community a few weeks back, and I've been pleased ever since! This product, and this board rock. I have encountered one problem though. And after trolling thru the FAQ and searching the board, I've decided to ask for help.

Monday I transfered files to my Empeg via JEmplode, and all seemed well. I also upgraded the kernel to v180 of the hijack kernel. Yesterday, I turned on my Empeg, hooked it up to the network, and now it won't talk ftp or http. Then in an effort to troubleshoot the problem I fired up JEmplode to try to change ip info. It seemed to initialize just fine until it was time to download the playlists. It's been sitting there for 2 hours now. I then put it in my truck and selected my huge global playlist, when I chose that, it hung my empeg in an eternal hourglass symbol. Funny thing is, I can choose sub playlists (off the mega playlist) just fine, and listen to them just fine..

Any help would be appreciated!

You might be running into a bug in 2.0 beta 7, or you might have uploaded a bad MP3. Or perhaps there's an error in the database.

I suggest the following course of action:

Full downgrade to Emplode 1.03 and player 1.03, (no hijack) and do a couple of synchronizations to force it to rebuild the database. If the problems go away, leave it there until the next beta release.

Tony, Thanks for the response! Well, I've kept on digging, and grabbed linux command line emplode (I'm a linux nut) and found that it was getting this error everytime emplode connected..
3245 Found missing member (fid 2a0) in playlist Playlists
3245 Found missing member (fid 1c7b0) in playlist Collection
3245 Found missing member (fid 1c7b0) in playlist john_williams

So, I go to the john williams directory, and try to delete a john_williams direcotry that is in this directory and I get this error

/> rm /Collection/john_williams
expand: added /Collection/john_williams
4205 Removing "john_williams" would remove current playlist

I try moving it, you name it, I did it, then I cd'd to the directory and about 3 change directories later I have this...

/Collection/john_williams/john_williams/john_williams/The Face of Voldemort
/Collection/john_williams/john_williams/john_williams/john_williams
/Collection/john_williams/john_williams/john_williams/Mr. Longbottom Flies
/Collection/john_williams/john_williams/john_williams/The Arrival of Baby Harry
/Collection/john_williams/john_williams/john_williams/Diagon Alley / The Gringot

I've got infinite loop heaven going on here! is there any way to force the removal of this directory?

I was about to suggest removing the offending playlist files (for real, from the empeg filesystem), but that would left its parents with a missing child. How about deleting all the playlist content from emplode, syncing, and then repopulating the list from refs=0 search result?

What happens when you delete database, playlists and tags from /empeg/var, mount drives RW, and restart the player by exiting the shell? It should rebuild the database and write it. Subsequent syncs should be OK...

Bam! That worked. I went in, thru serial, and deleted the playlist, then went in thru command line emplode, made it sync the disk, it found the album was missing a playlist. Fired up JEmplode and moved the orphaned songs to a new playlist, and I'm in like Flint! Thanks you two!

That's ``in like Flynn'' (as in Errol). ``In Like Flint'' was a James Bond spoof starring James Coburn.

Actually, I think he meant "Flynt".

Okay. You guys know something I don't. I'm unaware of common usage of that phrase modified to reference, I assume, Larry Flynt. What have I missed?
