Anyhow, I just went from beta3 to beta11 and see the new fonts. I like all but two of them. The new, big, capital letter 'i' looks identical to the lowercase 'L' now. I don't like having 'Use Your lllusion' (loosion?) displayed. I hate fonts that make those two letters look identical. It looks like I spelled it wrong. I also liked the old exclamation point, that was a little bit "fat". But, I can live without that, if we can get a capital 'i' that doesn't look like a lowercase 'L'.

The new font is more typographically correct for a sans-serif font. Note how in the post you just made, the capital I and lowercase L look the same in your web browser.

If you really want the old fonts, just install an old version of the software (such as 1.03) and grab the font files off of it. Then install the new version and stick the old font files onto the new version. Instructions for doing this are here, the files you want are located in /empeg/lib/fonts/. Enjoy.

If the fonts are upgradeable, has anyone produced their OWN custom fonts? How would this be done, if even possible?
(I notice- on the new fonts, at least - that they use the shading effect, like around zeros and such.. Neat idea..)

Yes, new fonts can be created. They require a special tool to compile them. At the moment, the only people who have this tool (to my knowledge) are the Empeg people, and Bruno ("Hybrid8") here on the BBS.

If you think you can create a great font, create it in bitmap form first, and if you think it's good, then contact Bruno about compiling it for you. Remember that you must restrict your fonts to exactly the same dimensions and color depth of the existing fonts.

I guess the real question is... which font file is used by default and/or where I can change (if possible) what font filename will be used by the player software (instead of just renaming font files in /empeg/lib/fonts).
