mp3tofid is a lifesaver (assuming you have to live with the database thingamabob that the current player uses). I was using 3.00 with rsync and a few other custom tools to put new music on the empeg.

There were two things I would improve on mp3tofid. Both are really related. One is, can you please support symlinks, so one can make a symlink farm instead of an actual copy of all the music (copying 12 gig can take awhile -- and yes hard links do work but I'd rather symlinks). Second is how about just a list of files, and you can just use the directory structure therein. I don't mind the directory structure I currently use at home, but I don't think my 12 gig harddrive will appreciate me trying to stuff 40gig of music on it.

Otherwise, it's essential to using the empeg. The little tool that ships empeg is just worthless for automatic updating. (pardon for the plain truth).
