I think that has more to do with the car rather than the upholstery material. When I was a teenager, my mom had a car with leather upholstery and it shocked me nearly every time I got out of the car, once through a leather jacket; the spark left a hole in the jacket. My car with cloth upholstery never shocked me.


The only difference in my case is that the cloth seat car was a 2000 Saturn SL2, and the Leather one was a 2002 Saturn SL2. They may have addressed the problem between model years somehow, but I always attributed it to the material and the environment. With the dry air in Colorado, it was just something I got used to.
