I am having problems getting my new 80 gig Toshiba drive to install correctly. (model mk8025gas). I am simply trying to replace my factory 20 gig drive with this new drive.

Applying the upgrade seems to work (pumping partions/ complete) and I immediately open up hyperterminal per the directions.

The drive is recognized (as hda correctly) but further on down the text, it says no primary drive.

The directions say it should start formatting the disk, but I have not seen this happen yet.

Here is the print out of the info on my hyper terminal.................................................................................

I am not using any jumpers on the drive since it is the only drive. I am concerned over this line...

VFS: Can't find an ext2 filesystem on dev ide0(3,4).

as it seems like the one that starts my problems....

can anyone assist me on this issue?

( i have tried deleting all partitions created to start the update fresh, and sure enough all partitions 1-6 are created on the drive, but i still get the no primary drive error...)

Was this log taken with Hyperterminal? If so, can you do that again, but this time, use the Transfer/Capture menu option to save the log to a file: Choose a file, and then turn on the player.

Hyperterminal's scroll back buffer is about as sane as a ferret with advanced dementia.

OK, so your music partition isn't formatted. How did you format the new drive? You used the builder image, yes?

Either try that again, or follow these instructions to format it manually. You'll have to replace every instance of "hdc" with "hda" if you've got the disk installed as the first drive in your empeg.

Greetings!

It would be a good idea to try and capture a log of the build as it is going. There is a known weirdness with the builder (does anyone know if it is a proven bug) where you sometimes have to run it more than once.
