Even cooler than the ROKU IMO:

that does look interesting... Has anyone used these Slim Devices as an alarm clock? How do you like it for that function?

The problem with using one for an alarm clock would be that if the power blinks or the computer freezes or the slimserver service stops, or you get some brief wireless interference, it doesn't always reconnect to the server automatically. If you're using it as an alarm clock, that means you're late for work.

Also, by the time you attach some amplified speakers, it's taking up a lot of room on your nightstand.

This experience is with the previous hardware version. The newer one may be more robust.

It looks great, shame I don't have a house fancy enough to do it justice.

I've got an earlier Squeezebox, which I like a lot. The GUI isn't as nice as the EMPEG, but there's clearly an attention to detail worthy of appreciation.

As an alarm clock, probably the number one issue is the lack of a snooze bar. By the time you've fumbled for the remote control and figured out how to scroll through the menus to cancel the thing, well, you're probably awake. Maybe that's a good thing.

Now that this latest SqueezeBox is out, is it time for us to have a definitive SqueezeBox vs. SoundBridge thread here? (I know I'm buying one of these eventually; I just don't know which one.)

vs the new unreleased AE WiFi Radio too! It can play MP3s from a samba share, as well as internet radio. Its roughly the right price, it has a built-in amp and speaker which makes it an ideal bedroom device. Its AE, so it should sound good too. Definately a contender. Has anyone pre-ordered it yet? I'm dangerously close to pressing the button.

Well if you want to buy my old style squeezebox (or slimp3) I could get myself a SB MkIII

One thing about the Roku - no fast forward or rewind. If I had known that I wouldn't have bought one.

I love my Slimp3, use it almost daily. They just keep adding new features to it too, and almost all of the stuff they add for the new devices is backwards compatible. The web interface RULES for using it with my laptop, and I actually really dig the remote control and on screen interface. It's tiny and sits on the base stand of my plasma TV. It, along with the empeg, is one of the few techy toys that I felt was way over priced when I bought it, but ended up being worth every cent.

PM me if you'd like my slimp3 (I've also got a non functional one which I'll throw in for nothing)
