I'm sure that works well for a single machine, but I use MRTG to monitor that sort of thing. Of course, that assumes that your gateway has an SNMP agent on it capable of returning data about the amount of traffic sent over its interfaces. Most real operating systems do. Don't know about MSWindows, though.
