No, but we did want to allow the player to be fully expanded. The factory didn't like the pads on the bottom of the boards (like the mk1) as they kept getting shorted during flow soldering of the through-hole parts... so we had to take them off for the mk2.

Thinking back, maybe the ring-o-lights is less useful than the option of taking a mk2a to 48Mbytes (6 chips)
